Description

The property comprises a farmhouse, barn, granary, stable, and associated cartshed, constructed primarily in the early 18th century, with later additions and alterations.

The farmhouse is a two-storey building of whitewashed rubble masonry under a moderately pitched slate roof with plain eaves and deep verges. It features tall square rendered stone and lateral rendered stacks, with slated offsets and gablets and water tabling. The front has 2-light casement windows set under the eaves, with larger windows to the ground floor, all with stone lintels. A round arched doorway, with stone voussoirs and a half-glazed door, provides access. A whitewashed rubble lean-to extends to the right, with a slate roof, rubble stack, 2-light window, and plank door, also with stone lintels. A lateral stack is present to the left, alongside an out window. A stone stair to the granary obscures the original cross passage door. A plank door is located under the eaves of the granary. A loading door is positioned to the left, above a cambered cartshed entry. A lean-to cartshed adjoins the building in line to the left, constructed of rubble masonry with a slate roof. The cartshed includes a loft door and entry, both with timber lintels. A modern rubble scullery lean-to is attached to the rear, featuring a slate roof, a tall rendered brick stack, a modern door, and a 2-light window.

An early 18th century barn adjoins the main range at a right angle to the right on the rear. It is built of rubble masonry with a steeply pitched quarry slate roof, plain eaves, and deep verges. Opposite doorways are present in the top end. One gable end has been rebuilt. The barn features through-purlin collared trusses, predominantly repaired, with a tie beam alongside the threshing floor. Originally, a lofted cowhouse was located at the downhill end, and a storage bay exists, lower than the threshing floor, containing a sillbeam. The barn roof comprises seven bays with through-purlin arch braced collar trusses, upper struts, with cusped details to two trusses over the former open hall, and chamfering. Straight wind braces are present on original purlins throughout.

A lofted 19th century stable adjoins the east end of the house, constructed of coursed rubble masonry and featuring a moderately pitched quarry slate roof with plain eaves and close verges. A loft doorway is positioned under the eaves with a plank door. A split stable door is located on the ground floor to the right, set beneath a deep stone lintel. A tackroom and loosebox are incorporated into an outshot to the rear, featuring timber stalls and a 19th century collared truss.

Inside the farmhouse, a heavy, stop-chamfered plank and muntin dais partition stands alongside an original doorway with an ogee doorhead and an early three-plank door. Stop-chamfered ceiling beams are found in the former service rooms at the east end, while a stop-chamfered bressumer is situated above the end fireplace, which has been partially blocked. Screen partitions continue through the first floor. The interior of the cartshed may contain evidence of original window openings. Original doorways of the cross passage feature round arches with stone voussoirs.
