Description

Old Inn Cottage is a small house dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with possible earlier origins and later additions from the late 18th century and 20th century. The structure features partly rendered cob and rubble walls and a gable-ended thatch roof. It has three gable end stacks: a brick stack on the front range and a projecting rendered rubble stack with a brick shaft on the rear wing.

The original layout consists of a two-room range at the front, with both rooms heated. A later 18th-century one-room plan rear wing was added behind the right-hand room, which is also heated. A 20th-century outshut has been built in the angle between the wing and the main range.

The exterior is two storeys high, with a regular two-window front featuring 20th-century three-light casements in small openings. The former lean-to porch at the centre has been replaced with a window. The rear wing projects slightly at the right-hand end and includes a 20th-century glazed porch in the angle.

Inside, there are fairly insubstantial rough cross beams. The rear wing contains an open fireplace with a cambered wooden lintel, while the right-hand room has a fireplace with a plain wooden lintel. The roof trusses have not been inspected but may hold interest.
