Description

This is a range of farm buildings surrounding a courtyard, located to the east of Croft Farmhouse. The buildings likely date from the 17th and 18th centuries, with some 19th-century alterations. They are constructed from cob and stone rubble, featuring slate gable-ended roofs at various heights, some of which have been reclad in corrugated sheet steel and corrugated asbestos.

The layout consists of buildings arranged on four sides of a small courtyard in front of Croft Farmhouse. The barn and stables on the southeast side are attached to the higher end of the house and were extended at the east end in the 19th century, including a horse engine house on the outer south side. On the north side of the yard, there is a granary connected to the lower end of the house by a short wall with a doorway that provides access to the courtyard from outside. The east front of the yard features a low range that includes pigsties and possibly stores.

In terms of exterior details, the granary on the north side has external stone steps leading up to a loft doorway on the inner courtyard side. The west end has a ground floor doorway, while the east gable end features a 17th-century three-light wooden mullion window on the first floor, with a similar two-light window in the gable above. The low pigsty range on the east side has two plank doors on the outer east elevation and a small single-light chamfered window to the left. The inner west elevation of the pigsty range is partly clad in vertical boards and has three hatches for the sties. The barn range on the south side includes three pairs of pigeon holes under the eaves and two plank doors on the ground floor facing the yard. The east end of the barn has been extended in stone rubble, featuring large opposing barn doorways and a horse engine house on the outer south side. The courtyard is paved with small pitched stones and includes a late 19th-century cast iron water pump against the front of the house, accompanied by a granite trough.
