Description

Teachmore Farmhouse is a house, originally a farmhouse, dating from the mid to later 17th century, with 20th-century additions. It is constructed of rendered cob and rubble with a thatched, gable-ended roof and two brick gable end stacks. The original layout comprised two rooms and a through passage, with both rooms heated by gable end stacks; the left-hand room was likely a kitchen. The front facade is symmetrical, featuring a 20th-century three-window arrangement of 2-light casements, a central 20th-century part-glazed door with a gabled hood, and a large 20th-century garage extension at the rear, along with a lean-to addition to the left. Internally, both rooms have chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. The right-hand room contains an open fireplace with a chamfered wooden lintel and a clom oven to the left. The left-hand room has a wide open fireplace with a chamfered and straight-cut stopped wooden lintel, along with remains of a cream cooker to the right of the fireplace. Stud partitions on either side of the passage feature morticed and pegged studs set into the head beam, which may be original. The feet of the roof trusses are not visible on the first floor and are unlikely to be original.
