Description

Eastacombe Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure features rubble and cob walls, which are rendered at the front, and a corrugated iron roof that is gabled to the right and hipped to the left. There is a brick axial stack and a projecting rendered rubble stack at the right gable end.

Originally, the farmhouse had a three-room and through passage plan, with the lower end located to the left. The small hall includes a stack that backs onto the passage and a projecting two-storey window bay at the front. The inner room may have been lengthened in the 18th century. In the 20th century, this space was divided into two, creating a small room between it and the hall, with a passage at the rear. The lower room was rebuilt in the 19th or 20th century.

The exterior is two storeys high and presents an asymmetrical three-window front, with the gabled hall bay projecting to the left of centre. It features 20th-century two-light casements on both the first and ground floors, a mid to late 20th-century leaded pane casement on the ground floor of the hall bay, and a similar 20th-century French window to the right. A 20th-century panelled door is located to the left of the hall bay, beyond which is a 20th-century lean-to.

Inside, there is a pointed four-centred chamfered wooden doorframe leading from the hall to the inner room, with a chamfered half beam above it. The roof trusses are likely from the 19th or 20th century, with the feet of insubstantial straight rafters visible on the first floor.
