Description

This milestone, located at SX 492 754, dates from the late 18th century and is made of granite. It is a monolith with a shaped head, featuring lettering on the front that reads: "FROM TAVISTOCK 1 MILE, OAKHAMPTON 14, TRURO 51." It was erected under the Turnpike Act of 1760 for the roads leading into Okehampton. The milestone has been listed twice before, with the previous entry removed on 1 September 2016, and it was subject to a minor amendment on the same date.
