Description

The barn located to the northwest of Bradstone Manor is a bank barn that includes a shippon with a threshing floor and a granary above, dating from around the 1830s. It is constructed from stone rubble and features large granite lintels. The roof is made of rag slate with half-hipped ends, and there are two adjoining lower wings that also have half-hipped ends.

The barn is two storeys high, with a regular southeast front. The ground floor of the main central range has five enlarged shippon openings, each with large granite lintels. Above these, there are five rectangular openings that are boarded and partly glazed, also featuring granite lintels. To the right of the center, there are large double doors leading to the threshing floor, which is topped by a gabled hood with a slate roof supported by timber brackets. Below the eaves, there is a single line of pigeon holes.

The flanking wings are also two storeys tall, with shippon openings beneath granite lintels on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a horse engine house located at the northeast corner of the main range. This structure is open-sided and octagonal, supported by large, roughly square granite piers that hold up a polygonal rag slate roof. The openings to the bank barn feature large granite lintels, and there are double threshing doors with a gabled hood and slate roof on timber brackets. The interior has not been inspected. This barn is included for its group value with Bradstone Manor and the Gatehouse.
