Description
Woodlands Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into cottages and is currently empty. It likely dates from the late 16th century to the early 17th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble and features a slate roof with gabled ends, along with a projecting wing that has a gabled end on the right. There is a rear projecting lateral stack to the central hall and a stone rubble stack in the right-hand gabled end. The layout is uncertain due to difficult access, but it possibly consists of two rooms with a central entrance and a wing at the front of the right-hand end, creating an overall L-shaped plan.
The cottage is two storeys high with an asymmetrical five-window front. The ground floor of the main range includes a wide plank door situated in a rendered lean-to porch topped with a corrugated iron roof. To the left, there is a two-light opening, while the openings to the right are overgrown. Above, there is a two-light casement positioned below the eaves. The building features three 19th-century gabled half-dormers, which still have remnants of late 19th-century three-light casements. In the gable end of the projecting wing, there is a three-light casement in a partly blocked entrance, with an opening above that is also overgrown. The property was considerably overgrown at the time of inspection in 1985.
