Description
Houghton is a farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages, with entrances located at the rear. The building dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a 19th-century addition and later alterations. It is constructed from rendered cob and rubblestone, featuring a thatched roof for the original 17th-century section and a slate roof for the later parts. The layout consists of a three-unit plan with a through passage, a right-hand (south) service room, a rear lateral stack for the hall, and a truncated stack at the left end. There is a 19th-century addition to the north, and single-storey lean-tos from the 19th and 20th centuries at each end. The exterior has two storeys and a three-window range facing the road, which includes one window from the left-hand 19th-century extension. The street front features 19th and 20th-century two-light, two-pane casement windows, along with a small fixed one-light window on the right. The rear also has 19th and 20th-century windows in the three-window range. The interior has been altered and was only partially inspected, with the roof not seen.
