Description
Higher Morley Littlejoy Cottage is a farmhouse that was later converted into three cottages and is now two dwellings. It dates from the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th century and mid-20th century. The building features painted render over cob and rubblestone, topped with a thatched roof and stone and rendered stacks.
The layout consists of a four-unit plan, with Higher Morley on the left of Littlejoy Cottage. To the right is a former service room, and there is a projecting stack and hall bay to the left of a former through passage. Two stone lateral stacks are located to the left of the rear wall.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a four-window range. A late 19th-century flat-roofed block projects forward from the inside-left of the hall bay and includes a two-light, three-pane casement window, while the other windows are from the 20th century. A mid-20th-century lean-to extends to the front of the former entry on the right, and the former service room has been extensively rebuilt during the mid-20th century.
Inside, the dwelling on the left has an entrance on the left return. Both floors feature a chamfered crossbeam, and to the right of the door, there is a winding stair. Notably, horizontal straw from the original render can be seen above the door, visible beneath the later 20th-century render. The dwelling on the right has been altered, and the roof has not been inspected.
