Description

Holbeam Cottage is a late 16th or 17th century cottage, with a 20th century addition on the north-east side. The walls are a combination of rendered stone and cob, and the roof is thatched, hipped on the left and gabled on the right. A projecting stack is located in the right-hand gable, featuring a tapered top and an added stone shaft. The windows are arranged irregularly, grouped to the left. There are two ground-floor windows with late 20th century glazing; the left-hand window is a former doorway with stone steps leading up to it. Two second-floor windows have 19th century wooden casements. The interior now comprises a single ground-floor room in the original part of the house. Two early ceiling beams remain, constructed of poor timber but retaining traces of a chamfer. A blocked fireplace has a chamfered wooden lintel. The upper storey was not inspected.
