Description

Wrigwell House is a house that underwent early 19th century remodelling of a 17th century or earlier building. It features solid rendered walls, likely made of stone, and a hipped slated roof with overhanging eaves. The chimneystacks, which appear to be from the 19th century, are located on the ridge at the right-hand end of the main range and above the space between the two left-hand windows, while a large old stack is found on the ridge of the rear wing. The house has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high, with a seven-window front. The two right-hand windows are set in a slightly recessed wing. All windows are sashes with glazing bars. The five-window main range is roughly symmetrical, featuring a central doorway with raised quoins at the building's corners. The doorway is adorned with a moulded wood architrave and a six-panelled door, which has two flush panels at the bottom and late 19th century glazing in the top two panels. An open porch supported by plain granite columns with moulded caps and bases, possibly dating from the 18th century, has a flat moulded wooden top. The left-hand gable wall includes a 20th century bay window on the ground storey. Although the interior was not inspected, the front range was previously noted for having an open rounded-headed corner cupboard with cut shelves, rounded-headed openings to passages, and an Adam style fireplace upstairs. The rear wing was described as having some fine old doors, one immense oak beam, and old flagged floors. To the south-east, there are farm buildings that are not separately listed, which contain an old cider press still in working order. The gateposts at the south-east entrance are listed separately.
