Description

BICKINGTON SX 87 SW 8/6 - Chipley Mill House

GV II

House, formerly a mill house. Front looks C19, but building may be earlier; later additions at rear. Stone rubble, rendered at the front. Slated roof, hipped on left. 2 storeys. 5-window front with C20 wood casement windows in vaguely Tudor style. Blocked, round-arched doorway in second bay from the right. In rear wall, at right-hand end, 2 large projecting chimneystacks; between them a projection, probably a stair turret. Interior not inspected. House and mill (q.v.) make a good group. Neither is shown on the 2-inch Ordnance Survey map of 1803-4 (information from Mr L Keefe, Teignbridge District Council).
