Description

Coombe Park is a house dating from the early to mid-19th century, featuring solid rendered walls, likely made of stone. The roof is slated and hipped at both ends, including the wing on the right side. There are rendered chimneystacks on each side wall and at the rear wall of the wing. The building has a double-depth four-square plan with a single-depth wing and stands two storeys tall.

The main block presents a symmetrical three-window front, with the middle window slightly projecting and topped with a triangular pediment. The wing, which is set back slightly, has one window. The ground-storey windows are adorned with moulded cement architraves and feature 8-pane wood sashes with horns. The upper-storey windows have plain eared architraves made of cement, with sills supported by small bracket-like blocks at each end, and all are fitted with 6-pane wood sashes without horns. Many of the windows retain their original glass.

A moulded cement band runs between the storeys, and there is a bracketed wood eaves-cornice. The central bay of the main block includes a five-panelled door with a cast-iron knocker and a fanlight above, which has diagonally-set glazing-bars arranged in a cross pattern, all framed by a moulded cement architrave. The porch features two granite columns at the front that support an entablature and blocking course. On either side of the rear of the porch are the moulded bases of two columns.

The left-hand side wall is architecturally treated, with the flues from the front and back rooms set apart, each slightly projecting and meeting in a round arch at the top. The interior has not been inspected, but the ground-storey front rooms are noted to have panelled shutters.
