Description
Croft Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th or 17th century, constructed from rendered stone or cob with a thatched roof that has gables at each end. It is 1½-storeys high and features a single-storey lean-to, likely a later addition, against the north-east gable that faces the road. The north-east gable has a projecting chimney stack with a tapered top, which is topped by a later rendered shaft. On the rear (north-west) side, there is a rectangular projection that is probably an oven. The front (south-east) side has an off-centre doorway to the left with a square-headed chamfered wood frame and a 19th-century lean-to porch. There is one window on either side of the ground storey, with corresponding swept dormers above; the right-hand dormer is a swept dormer. All windows are fitted with 20th-century metal casements. The interior has an irregular three-room ground plan, likely largely from the 19th century. The ceiling does not have main beams but features plain joists running from the front to the back walls, with particularly thick joists in the main (north-east) room. In the centre of the rear wall, there is a projecting semi-circular stair turret. The upper storey has not been inspected, and fireplaces and other interesting features are likely concealed under plaster.
