Description
SX 87 SW OGWELL CROFT ROAD
2/2 Croft Cottage -
- II
Cottage. Late C16 or C17. Rendered stone or cob. Thatched roof, gabled each end. 1½-storeys, with single-storey lean-to (probably a later addition) against north- east gable fronting the road. Projecting chimney-stack in north-east gable having tapered top, this surmounted by a later rendered shaft. On rear (north-west) side a rectangular projection, probably an oven. Front (to south-east) has doorway off- centre to left; square-headed chamfered wood frame, C19 lean-to porch. One window to either side in ground storey with corresponding swept dormers above, the right- hand one a swept dormer. All windows have C20 metal casements. Interior has irregular 3-room ground plan, probably dating largely from C19. Ceiling has no main beams, only plain joists running from front to back walls, those in main (north-east) room particularly thick. In centre of rear wall a projecting semi- circular stair turret. Upper storey not inspected. Fireplaces and other features of interest probably hidden under plaster.
