Description
Hoops Cottage is a cottage that probably dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of rendered stone and cob, with a thatched roof that is hipped at the left end. There is a rendered stone rubble stack with a tapered cap at the right end. The cottage has a basic two-room plan with a direct entry to the larger heated room on the right, although the interior partitions have been altered. It is two storeys high and has a two-window range. Each floor features a two-light casement window with two panes per light, flanking a pantiled gabled roof over the porch, which has a half-glazed plank inner door. There is a single-storey 19th-century extension at the left end, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof, and a stone rubble lean-to at the right end that conceals a bread oven projection at the gable end stack. Inside, the fireplace has been infilled, and there are roughly chamfered beams in the right-hand room, but otherwise, the interior has been much altered.
