Description

The farm building at Accott is a historic structure, possibly dating back to the 15th century, with an original use that is unknown but is reputed to have served as a chapel. It is constructed from stone rubble and features a corrugated asbestos roof with gable ends. The building has a rectangular plan and was originally lofted but now has a raised concrete floor inserted at waist-height, making it a single storey.

On the front left side, there is an opening with a timber lintel and a stone rubble buttress to the left. To the right, there is a partially demolished 19th-century lean-to. At the rear, there is a late medieval doorway with a timber surround and a slightly shouldered head, which seems to have been inserted into a former larger opening. The right gable end has a large blocked loft opening with a slightly cambered stone arch.

The roof structure is largely intact and features five raised cruck trusses, four of which have short jointed feet, while the central truss has short curved feet that are integral with the blades. The roof also includes two tiers of threaded purlins and a threaded ridge purlin. The straight collars are tenoned into soffit mortices on the blades, with three pairs having short strengthening pieces at the ridge. Notably, Truss I has a jointed foot missing from the front, and Truss II has a foot missing from the rear. This building was formerly attached to the west gable end of Accott Manor, which was demolished around the 1960s.
