Description
Higher Lodge is a lodge to Stover Park, built around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from snecked local limestone, featuring dressed limestone quoins and Bathstone dressings. The building has a steeply pitched slate roof with deep eaves and verges. There are stone stacks, including lateral stacks at the rear of the right-hand wing and a gable end stack at the rear of the left-hand wing.
The plan likely includes two principal rooms, with the right-hand room having a rear lateral stack and the left-hand room located in a cross-wing with a rear gable end stack. Behind the left-hand room is a small service room. The entrance is through a porch located at the front angle of the right-hand wing and the left-hand cross-wing.
The lodge has four storeys and features a two-window front, with the left-hand window in a projecting gabled cross-wing that includes a centered stone bay. A small stone porch is diagonally set in the angle at the center, featuring a chamfered shouldered arch doorway. All windows are 2-light casements with margin panes set in Bathstone frames, complete with hoodmoulds.
At the back of the cross-wing, there is a short gabled wing that likely contains the service room.
