Description

Ley Green Cottage is a cottage that forms part of the original farmhouse, dating from the late 16th century to the 17th century. It is constructed of plastered cob and features a slate roof with gabled ends and overhanging eaves. The building consists of the hall and lower end of a three-room-and-through-passage house, with Lavender Cottage adjoining on the right as the extended higher end. There are later rear outshuts and stacks at the gable ends, with the left-hand stack having a set-off and a later brick shaft.

The cottage is two storeys high and has a three-window range, featuring small late 19th-century or early 20th-century two-light casements with glazing bars. There is a small gabled half-dormer from the 19th or early 20th century at the eaves to the right of the centre. The central through passage has a doorway framed by a 17th-century chamfered wooden doorframe, with carpenter's metres and straight cut stops on the jambs. There are old plank doors at the front and back of the through passage.

Inside, the through passage has a partition that is boarded over. The ceiling beam in the right-hand (west) room, which was the former hall, features a chamfer with convex stops, and the chamfer continues at the opposite end into a wider section. There is a half beam in the east end wall of the left-hand (east) room, which is the kitchen, also with a chamfer. Both ends have blocked fireplaces. Three roof trusses remain, with lip jointed side pegged collars, threaded purlins, and a diagonal ridge, along with some surviving rafters.
