Description

Moorview is a house dating from around the 17th century, constructed from whitewashed rendered cob with a thatched roof that is half-hipped at the left end and gabled at the right end. It features an axial stack and a projecting stack at the right end, along with a rear left stack that dates from the 19th or 20th century. The original 17th-century layout likely consisted of three rooms and a cross or through passage, with the hall stack backing onto the passage and an unheated lower end on the left and an inner room on the right. A 19th-century staircase has been added at the rear of the passage, and the inner room is now heated. A change in the plane on the rear wall indicates some significant rebuilding has occurred.

The house is two storeys tall with an asymmetrical three-window front, where the thatch eaves are eyebrowed over the three first-floor windows. To the left of centre, there is a 20th-century porch with a lean-to roof and a modern front door. The ground floor features two and three-light casement windows, each with three panes per light, while the first-floor windows are two-light casements with two panes per light. Inside, the hall has a 20th-century grate that likely conceals an earlier fireplace, along with a 17th-century chamfered half beam with scroll stops. The exposed joists are probably later replacements. The roof structure consists of collar rafter trusses, with the collars halved and pegged onto the principal rafters. Moorview has group value with Sampson's Farm Restaurant.
