Description
Burnell Cottage is a house, formerly a farmhouse, that likely dates back to the 18th century. It is whitewashed and rendered, topped with a slate roof. The building has a single-depth plan that is two rooms wide, with the left room being slightly smaller.
This two-storey farmhouse features gable end stacks, with the external stack on the left end having set-offs. The front elevation faces south and has an asymmetrical arrangement of three windows on both the ground and first floors. These windows are 19th-century casements with three panes per light. To the left of center on the front is a deep lean-to porch that has a slate roof and a wide plank front door. There is also an adjoining outbuilding on the right end, which has a blocked doorway on the front.
The interior has not been inspected. Burnell Cottage is recognized for its architectural value as a good example of an 18th-century vernacular cottage that retains a significant amount of its historic fabric, including the external stack with set-offs.
