Description
West Cottage is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of whitewashed and plastered cob on a stone plinth, topped with a slate roof that has gabled ends, likely raised and originally thatched. The house has a rendered front lateral stack. The layout consists of two rooms and a through passage, with the living space extended into a former barn on the right side and a former outbuilding at the rear right.
The building is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The front door, which is from the 20th century, is located under a 20th-century open gabled porch. On the ground floor, the left window is a hornless sash with four panes above eight panes, while the right window is a 20th-century casement with glazing bars. The first floor features 20th-century small pane windows. Inside, the left ground floor room, which serves as a hall, showcases cross beams of heavy scantling. A small 17th-century two-light timber mullioned window provides light to the stair.
