Description
North Lodge and the attached gateway at Osmaston Park were built around 1849 by Stevens of Derby. The lodge is constructed from coursed squared rock-faced limestone with sandstone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with bracketed overhanging eaves. It has a massive stone ridge stack and stands two storeys tall with an unequal cruciform plan.
The west elevation consists of three bays, with a projecting gabled center bay that includes a doorway on the left, featuring a stepped and chamfered surround and a plank door. To the right of the doorway is a two-light window with a recessed and chamfered mullion, and above it is a similar four-light window. The return walls have a two-light window on the ground floor, while the outer bays each have a single light window on the ground floor. The north and south gable ends each have a four-light window on both floors.
The gateway is attached to the northwest of the lodge and is marked by four tall limestone piers with moulded tops and ball finials. There are also six subsidiary piers made of sandstone, which are linked by a stone balustrade featuring round arches.
