Description
Nos. 18 and 18A on Bridgeland Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, likely built around 1727-1728. It features a solid rendered front and a slated roof, with a rendered chimney on the left gable end. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The ground storey has a late 20th-century shop front, while the upper storey contains three box-framed sash windows, each with six panes. There is a moulded board beneath the eaves, and two gabled dormers topped with perforated red crested ridge-tiles. Each dormer has two-light wood casements with two panes per light, and a small moulded cornice above each window. The bargeboards are plain and supported by brackets at each end. The interior has not been inspected. Historical records indicate that on February 20, 1727/8, the Bideford Bridge Feofees leased this house to John Cleverdon, a carpenter from Bideford, who had recently erected it.
