Description
Nos. 18 and 18A on Church Street is a shop with a flat, built in 1698. The building is timber-framed and plastered, topped with gabled clay plain tile roofs. It has two storeys with attics and a central ridgeline stack. At the roof level, there are two large jettied feature gables with 19th-century bargeboards and imitation studwork. Each gable features a square double-hung sash window with six panes and a moulded surround. On the first floor, beneath each gable, there are projecting bays with canted flanks, each containing a double-hung sash window with a single vertical glazing bar on the front face. The central recess displays a circular wreath of plaster with the date 1698, along with a rose and trident-like motif. The flank recesses have tall plaster panels with moulded frames. The ground floor consists of two identical canted 19th-century shop fronts with fascias on fluted brackets, small-paned display windows, and doors with rectangular opening fanlights. The interior does not have any evident features.
