Description

WINKLEIGH LOWER TOWN SS 6207-6307 12/182 Chubb Cottages II Pair of cottages. Early C18. Rendered cob walls. Gable-ended thatch roof. 2 rendered brick gable-end stacks. Plan: pair of 2 room plan cottages, the end room of each is heated by a gable-end fireplace. Exterior: 2 storeys. Mirror image 2-window front to each cottage of C20 2-light casements with central gabled C20 porch which has late C19 or early C20 plank door behind. Interior of right-hand cottage only inspected - much altered in late C20 but retains old timber fireplace lintel and ceiling beam and possibly original roof timbers.
