Description

East Sedgetts is a house dating to around the late 17th century, with a 19th-century addition and 20th-century alterations. The structure is built of rendered cob and rubble walls, topped by a hipped thatched roof. A brick axial stack is present, along with one at the left gable end. There’s also a slightly projecting rendered stack on the rear wing. The original layout is somewhat unclear, likely a 2- or 3-room plan with a through-passage, although the precise location of the passage is uncertain. A single-story wing originally served as an outbuilding and was converted in the 20th century, featuring a lateral fireplace. The front of the house, facing the road, has an asymmetrical facade with a 2-window arrangement. The windows are later 20th-century, featuring 1 and 2-light small-paned casements. A wing on the right-hand side has a wide 20th-century plank door. The rear elevation includes later casements and two 20th-century glazed doors at each end. Inside, the house features open fireplaces with wooden lintels and relatively modern replacement ceiling joists. The roof timbers may be of interest. The group value context is a good example of a vernacular building.
