Description
Westacott's is a house, originally likely a farmhouse, dating from the early 17th century, possibly with earlier origins, and featuring additions from the 19th or 20th century. The building has rendered cob walls and a thatched roof that is gabled to the right and hipped to the left, with a corrugated iron roof on the outbuilding at the right end. There is a large rendered axial stack, likely made of rubble. The original plan was probably a three-room-and-through-passage layout, with the lower end to the right reduced in height and converted to an outbuilding. The hall is heated by a fireplace at its higher end, and there is a 19th or early 20th century lean-to against the end of the inner room.
The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front featuring one window on the upper floor and two windows on the ground floor. The windows are early 20th century two and three-light casements. At the right-hand end of the higher part of the house, there is a 19th or early 20th century panelled and part-glazed door. The lower outbuilding to the right has a plank door on its front wall.
Inside, the room to the left of the passage has an unchamfered beam resting on moulded wooden corbels. The room to the right of the passage, now an outbuilding, features a very heavy chamfered cross beam with hollow step stops and a fireplace with an unchamfered wooden lintel. The roof trusses over the main house are likely 19th century straight principal rafters, with 20th century timbers over the room that has been converted to an outbuilding.
