Description

2 and 4 Honestone Street are a pair of houses with a shop, dating from the early to mid-19th century. They feature solid rendered walls and a hipped slate roof, topped with a large red-brick chimney added in the late 20th century. The buildings stand three storeys tall. No 2 has two-window fronts facing Honestone Street and the Market Place, with a rounded corner that previously housed a shop front on the ground floor. This shop front includes half-glazed double doors with moulded lower panels, flanked by two attached Tuscan columns that support an entablature extending across a display window on either side. The display windows consist of an 8-paned window with canted sides on the right and a 6-paned window with an iron grille at the top on the left. Other windows have shaped cement surrounds and mostly feature 8-paned sash windows, although the ground floor on Honestone Street has a 20th-century casement, and the right-hand second and third-storey windows are blind. To the left of the ground-floor window is the house doorway, which has a shaped surround and a door with two flush bottom panels, the upper part of which is now glazed. Both fronts have a moulded board below the eaves. No 4 has a one-window front that matches No 2, with the house doorway located to the right of the ground-floor window, which contains a 20th-century wood casement. The upper-storey windows feature 8-paned sashes. The interior has not been inspected.
