Description
This is a mid-19th century house, likely originally a public house. It has a rendered front and a slate roof. A late 20th-century red-brick chimney is at the left end of the roof ridge, and a taller, older red-brick chimney at the right-hand end may have been shared with the adjacent property at No. 7. The house follows a double-depth plan, with a through-passage designed for carts on the left side of the ground floor. It is three storeys high and has a two-window front. Raised quoins are visible on the exterior.
A flat-topped, canted bay window projects from the ground floor on the right side, featuring double doors with a solid moulded panel below and two glazed panes above. The side lights flanking the bay are fitted with four-pane sashes and a moulded cornice. The passage entrance to the left has a plain architrave with chamfered jambs; the lintel projects at the right-hand end and has a slightly pointed top. The upper-storey windows have architraves similar to the cart entrance, although the side jambs are shaped to resemble masonry quoins, and the third-storey architraves have flat tops. The second-storey windows all contain eight-pane sashes, while the third-storey windows contain ten-pane sashes. A moulded board runs below the eaves, possibly a remnant of a larger original entablature. The interior has not been inspected.
