Description
28 High Street is a mid-19th century house with a shop. The front is solidly rendered, while the exposed part of the left side wall is slate-hung. It features a hipped slate roof and an old red-brick chimney on the right side wall, which has been heightened with two courses of cream brick. There is also a large rendered chimney behind the ridge on the left. The building has three storeys and a three-window range.
The ground storey includes a shop front with a wide side-passage entrance to the left. There are panelled pilasters at either end and between the shop and the passage entrance, with a circular panel in the centre. Above this, there is an entablature featuring a prominent moulded cornice. The display-window recesses are likely from the late 20th century and reuse earlier glazed double-doors with solid moulded bottom panels. The side-passage has plank double-doors.
The upper-storey windows are 8-paned sashes, except for the upper third-storey sashes, which have only 4 panes. The interior has not been inspected, but the side-passage has an old brick-paved surface and is separated from the shop by a stone-rubble wall.
