Description

This is a row of four headstones belonging to the Thorne family, located immediately to the north of Lake Methodist Chapel. The headstones are dated 1872, 1874, 1873, and 1883, commemorating James, Catherine, Samuel, and Mary Thorne. They are made of slate and feature epitaphs carved beneath the inscriptions. Mary was the daughter of William o'Bryan, who founded the Bible Christian Movement at Lake, Shebbear. Samuel Thorne, her husband, was a printer, and both James and Catherine Thorne were preachers.
