Description

The Thwaites headstone, located at the north-west corner of the churchyard of the old Church of St. Mary, is likely from the 18th century. It is made of cut sandstone and features a flat-topped slab. The inscriptions commemorate Christopher Thwaites, who died in 1693, and Henry Thwaites, who died in 1748, both of whom served as Post Master of Greata Bridge. The headstone also honors Henry's wife, Eleanor, who passed away in 1747. This headstone is included for its historical interest.
