Description
A pair of cottages dating from the early 18th century, with later 19th-century additions. The cottages have cob walls which are now plastered, covered by a gable-ended thatched roof. They have plastered rubble stacks, one at the left gable end with a brick shaft, and the other at the right gable end, also with a brick shaft.
The original plan consisted of two 2-room cottages. Now, the right-hand cottage is a single main room. There was originally an axial stack in the dividing wall, which is now disused. 19th and 20th-century extensions have been added to the rear.
The front has a regular 4-window arrangement, with 2 windows on each floor. The windows are early 20th-century 2-light casements. Each cottage has a 19th-century gabled porch in the centre; the left-hand cottage has a 20th-century glazed door, and the right-hand cottage has an early 20th-century panelled and glazed door. A large lean-to has been built against the right-hand end wall.
Inside the left-hand cottage, wany rough ceiling beams and a wooden lintel are visible above the blocked fireplace opening. Also visible are rough straight principal rafters. These cottages are considered to be among the most traditional looking in the village and retain an unspoilt appearance.
