Description

SHEBBEAR SS 40 NW 6/72 Shebbear College - eastern range - (former printing works) GV II College building, reputedly originally the printing works to the Bible Christian training college founded on the site in 1841 to which period the building apparently dates. Rendered walls. Gable-ended slate roof. Plan: L-shaped plan with single storey range adjoining road to north-east and 2- storey larger block at right angles to south-west. Exterior: 2 storeys to front range, 1-storey to rear wing. 2 storey range has asymmetrical 3-window front of circa early C20 16-pane sashes with 2 possibly original Venetian windows below. Round arched doorway at left end. To right are C20 wooden steps leading to 1st floor doorway. Right end wall has large Venetian window on 1st floor and probably contemporary tripartite sash window below. Single storey wing behind right-hand end has 4 original 12-pane sash windows on outer face with Gothic glazing. Interior: not inspected.
