Description

Burscott House and adjoining shop is a house with a shop that dates from the mid-19th century. It features a solid rendered front and a slated roof, with a rendered chimney on the left side wall. The building has two storeys and a basement, with a three-window range.

The ground storey includes a round-arched doorway with a reeded architrave, leading to a recessed, six-panelled door where the two lowest panels are flush. To the left of the doorway is a window with a moulded cornice supported by consoles, featuring plain sashes with horns. The shop front on the right has a two-paned display window with a single upright glazing bar, and a recessed glazed shop door that has a solid moulded panel at the bottom and panelled reveals. A moulded cornice runs across the entire shop front, with consoles at each end and one marking the division between the display window and the door.

On the second storey, the outer windows have six-paned sashes, while the middle window is a canted wooden bay with eight-paned sashes at the front and two-paned ones on the sides, topped with a moulded cornice. There is a raised band above the ground storey that extends to the shop front, and giant pilasters flank both storeys, rising to a shallow modillioned eaves cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
