Description
The Oak Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, located on Ferndale Road in Teignmouth. It features a painted roughcast exterior and a hipped thatched roof with rendered stacks on the end walls. The building has an L-shaped plan and is designed in a picturesque style.
The cottage is two storeys high and has a three-window range on the garden front. The overlights are decorated with diagonal lattice and Gothick tracery. On the first floor, there are three pointed arched windows that break through the eaves, resembling eyebrow dormers. On the ground floor, there is a single-storey projection with two canted bays that include French windows. Between these bays, there is a three-light casement window beneath a hipped thatched roof, which appears to have been a former porch.
Inside, the interior was altered in a Tudor style around 1920, but some original four-panel doors remain.
