Description

The Original Southern Block of Trinity School is a house that dates back to the 1830s, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. It features painted stucco and a hipped slate roof with rendered stacks on the south, east, and west sides. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in a picturesque Gothic style.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The west entrance front showcases a raised surround with a cornice above a semicircular-arched doorcase, which includes a moulded archivolt, panelled reveals and soffit, and interlacing glazing bars in the fanlight above double half-glazed doors with margin panes. On the first floor, there is a central 6/6-pane sash window flanked by 8/8-pane sashes on both floors. The ground floor sashes are set in raised surrounds, while the right-hand windows are glazed but blank and face the south stack.

The south garden front is articulated by five panelled pilasters topped with a stepped cornice, featuring a coped parapet, cornice, and pointed-arched recesses with windows. The first floor has tall 2-light 4-pane casements, and the ground floor has French windows with pointed-arched fanlights. A late 19th-century verandah is present on a raised garden terrace.

Inside, the ground floor includes panelled shutters, some 6-panel doors, reeded cornices with late 19th-century leaf friezes, and high skirting boards from the same period. The right-hand room features a late 19th-century red marble fireplace with heavy incised blocks in the upper corners and a hob grate. The staircase is adorned with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail with a curtail step.
