Description

Trinity School, Preparatory Department, is a house dating from the 1840s, now part of a school. It features painted stucco and a slate roof with wide bracketed eaves and rendered stacks at the gable ends. The building has a double-depth plan with a lower service wing to the right (north).

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window arrangement. The six-over-six pane sash windows are framed by moulded architraves. A central rusticated porch has a balustraded parapet, a semicircular arched doorway, and one-light windows on the sides. To the right, there is a similar three-window layout, and the right-hand (north) double-gabled return has three matching windows next to a panelled central door with an overlight. The rear elevation mirrors the front, featuring glazing bar sashes in moulded architraves, including four-over-four pane margin-pane sashes and a truncated stack at the back of the left-hand main block.

On the left return, the main block displays a one-one-one fenestration pattern, with projecting outer blocks that have segmental pediments above bracketed and enriched floating cornices. These cornices sit above tripartite windows on the first floor and canted ground-floor rusticated bays with balustraded parapets and dentilled cornices. Two tall slender cast-iron columns with fretted tops and similar brackets support a glazed canopy over a four-over-four pane horned sash in the centre.

The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have retained original features, including panelled shutters and cornices.
