Description
Dennington House is a house that has been converted into a school, built around 1820-1830. It features painted stucco and a slate roof with gable end stacks. The main structure is symmetrical, with a wide entrance hall flanked by large principal rooms on either side, and there are gable-ended and L-shaped extensions at the rear. The façade has a 2-1-2 bay arrangement, with a total of five windows consisting of hornless 12-paned sashes. The central bay projects slightly and has a moulded architrave.
A central Doric porch with two engaged columns and an entablature frames an elliptical arched doorway. This doorway is flanked by panelled sidelights, each with two panes above a half-glazed panelled door topped by a fanlight. On either side of the entrance, there are two tall sashes, each with six over nine panes, featuring hoodmoulds supported by consoles. The interior has undergone significant alterations, but some cornices in the principal rooms remain intact.
