Description
The Old School Room is a former school and possibly church-house, now serving as a village hall. It likely dates from the 17th century, although there may be earlier materials hidden within the structure. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends. There is a stack at the right end and a small truncated lateral stack at the front. The plan is rectangular, consisting of a large single room on each of its two floors.
The building has two storeys and external stone steps leading to a loft plank door at the left gable end, which is covered by a slate canopy. The east side has a range of three 20th-century two-light casement windows. The west side also has three two-light casements, one on each floor, with small leaded panes in the upper storey windows.
Inside, the ground floor room features two ceiling beams supported by slender engaged timber columns on each side. Although there is no access to the roof space, the feet of three straight principal rafters and heavy purlins are partially visible. The hall is adjacent to the churchyard.
