Description

Cider Cottage is a house dating from the 18th century, with additions from the 19th century and alterations made in the 20th century. It features painted rendered stone and cob construction, topped with a hipped thatch roof. The stacks have been rebuilt and are positioned just off the ridge and at the rear left end. Originally, the house was a two-cell cottage with a central entry that is now blocked, and the internal partitions have been removed. The right end has been extended with the addition of stables that are now part of the dwelling, while the left end has been extended with an additional room and a dairy wing at the front, creating an overall L-shaped plan. The house has two storeys and a six-window range, with 20th-century windows and a thatched porch. The ground floor windows feature timber lintels, and there are fireplaces located in the rear left corners of the two main rooms. The roof structure from the 18th or 19th century includes roughly-hewn pegged trusses and waney rafters.
