Description

KINGSTEIGNTON CHURCH STREET, Kingsteignton SX 87 SE 5/126 Lower Mill House including wall and railings in front -

GV II

Miller's house adjoining mill building (q.v.). Circa early C19. Whitewashed and rendered; asbestos slate roof, gabled at ends; right end stack with tall brick shaft adjoining mill building; 2 lateral stacks to crosswing, stack between crosswing and main range. L plan, the main range 2 rooms wide and single depth with a central entrance, C20 rear lean-to and crosswing at left end with 2 heated rooms. Both the crosswing and the main range back on to the churchyard. 2 storeys. 3-bay symmetrical front to main range with a platband at first floor level. Central timber porch crowned by a miniature grinding stone; panelled front door with top panels glazed; 16-pane sash windows without horns. The front elevaton of the wing has a first floor 4-pane sash and a C20 round-headed window facing the churchyard. A low grey limestone rubble wall crowned with iron railings forms a triangular courtyard in front of the house. Interior not inspected. Group value with the adjacent mill building.
