Description

The walls to the Fairwater are located along the mill leat that runs parallel to Berry Street in Kingsteignton. These walls are likely from the 19th century, although the leat itself, known as the Fairwater, has ancient origins. The walls are constructed of stone rubble, and access to the houses on the west side of Berry Street is provided by granite slabs that cross the leat. The watercourse may date back to medieval times. In 1879, the Whitsuntide Ram Roast ceremony was still being held, believed to have originated from the annual cleaning of the Fairwater.
