Description

No 23 Sandpath Road is a cottage that likely dates back to the 17th century, with 20th-century windows. It is constructed of whitewashed rendered cob and has an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends. A large axial stack is positioned to the right of the center and features a rounded cap. The building may have originally been part of a three-room house with a through passage, with Nos 19 and 21 to the left serving as the inner room and hall. A passageway at the extreme left end could be the original passage. The internal layout is likely single depth and two rooms wide, with a larger heated room on the left and a narrower service room on the right. The current front door, located in front of the stack, suggests a lobby entrance, with one wall of the lobby formed by the chimney breast. The cottage is two storeys tall and has an asymmetrical two-window front, with a plank door leading to the passage at the extreme left and the front door to the house situated to the right of center. There are two 20th-century windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor. The interior has not been inspected. This building is part of a row of vernacular structures that have group value with the nearby church.
