Description
Upper Long Dean Mill is a former mill house now used as a residence, dating from the 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble stone and features concrete tile roofs. It consists of three sections.
On the right, there is a two-storey and attic house range with coped gables and end wall stacks. This section includes three 20th-century raking dormers on each side, recessed cyma-moulded windows with hoodmoulds on the main floors, two 2-light windows above, and a 3-light window alongside a 2-light window with a central plank door in a chamfered surround on the ground floor. A lean-to porch is also present.
The centre section appears to be entirely from the 20th century and is two storeys high with a three-window range. The left side features an early 19th-century mill with a mansard roof, coped gables, and end wall stacks. This section is also two storeys and has an attic with one raking dormer at the front, two first-floor bead-moulded 3-light leaded windows that seem to have been renewed, and two ground-floor arches—one containing an inset plank door and the other a renewed 2-light bead-moulded window.
At the rear, there is a raking dormer, one 3-light bead-moulded window, and a ground-floor door. A rear wing with a mansard roof, coped gables, and a west end stack is also present, featuring a dormer, two unmoulded 2-light upper windows, and a ground-floor door with an arch over an iron mill wheel. Additionally, there is a slate-roofed outbuilding beyond the main structure.
