Description
The property comprises two dwellings, Carlton House and Carlton Cottage, originally probably dating from the 17th century. Built of whitewashed and rendered cob and stone rubble, the roofs are thatched, gabled at the right end and hipped at the left. Axial and right-end stacks are present, the right-end stack projecting and set off. The original layout featured a single-depth plan with three rooms, with the right-hand room now forming Carlton Cottage. A rear outshut with a tiled roof extends from the rear of Carlton House and a single-storey flat-roofed addition is at the rear of Carlton Cottage. The 20th-century front door of Carlton House is centrally positioned, while Carlton Cottage has a 20th-century front door on the left. The window arrangement is asymmetrical, with a 2:1 window frontage; Carlton House has a 20th-century canted bay window on the ground floor left, while the others are 3-light 20th-century timber casement windows with glazing bars. The interior was not inspected. The building is prominent in the centre of the village.
