Description
The lodge at the main gateway outside the gates in Bishopsteignton is an early 19th-century building, possibly extended later in the 19th century. It was originally owned by Lord Cable, who intended to replace it with a new lodge in the 1920s, but his death prevented this design from being completed. The lodge is colourwashed and stuccoed, featuring a two-span slate roof with deep eaves and moulded eaves brackets, along with a rendered stack.
The building has a double depth plan with a projecting canted bay at the center front and a central entrance that likely leads into a later-added porch. The exterior is single-storey and has a symmetrical three-bay front with the central porch. It includes 12-pane sash windows in the canted bay and similar sash windows on the left and right sides. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear left. The interior has not been inspected. The lodge has group value with the 1920s gateway and lodge.
