Description
Ivy Cottage is a small cottage dating from the 17th or 18th century. It is constructed of whitewashed and rendered materials, likely cob and stone, and features a thatched roof with gabled ends and end stacks with brick shafts. The cottage has a single depth, two-room plan with an entrance on the left gable end and a small rear left lean-to, which is probably of a later date.
The exterior is two storeys high and includes two timber casement windows on both the first and ground floors facing the road. There is a very small stair window on the left end wall, likely illuminating a winder or newel stair, and a 19th-century front door on the left return.
While there was no access to the interior during the survey in 1987, the previous listing description noted that there were once two staircases opening from the downstairs rooms, with one now blocked and the other being spiral. It also mentioned an oak screen between the rooms that is papered over but could be easily restored, as well as old beams that are also papered over. The cottage remains very unspoiled externally, suggesting that these interior features are likely to have survived.
