Description
This lych gate, dated 1891, is located approximately 20 metres west of the chancel of the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in Newton Abbot. It features squared Devon limestone outer walls that are weathered towards the tops and a plain tile roof with a half-hipped design. The structure has a wide three-bay plan, with pedestrian gates on either side of double gates at the centre. The supporting piers have arch braces that create simple arcades at both the front and rear. Inside, the exposed rafters and timber-framing are visible at the tops of the walls. The interior also includes memorial panels, one of which is by Wood of Bristol, dedicated to Rev. William Yeo, who died in 1699.
